American Councils for International Education together with National Conference of State Legislatures is proud to present a new exchange program - Legislative Education and Practice Program (LEAP).

Legislative Education and Practice Program is a project sponsored by the U.S. State Department, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.   In 2009-2010, this project will allow young promising leaders from Georgia, Russia, Ukraine and Turkey the opportunity to build upon the solid foundation of American democratic values and ideals established during their exchange year in the U.S. 

The program targets young professionals who are pursuing careers in government or intend to do so, and offers them the opportunity to expand their knowledge and interest in the democratic political process through State-level government fellowships in the U.S.  The long-term goal is to enable the fellows to share their knowledge with their peers in their home countries through follow-on activities, including conferences and outreach events. The fellowships in state legislatures will enable alumni participants to expand upon their U.S.-based experiences and provide them with opportunities to develop concrete leadership skills.  

Desirable candidates of 23-33 years old with at least 2 years' demonstrated experience in legislative and government affairs, comparative politics or citizen participation may apply for LEAP by Dec.30, 2008.
